RE: wheel bearings on a 4kq
The strut housings will have to be removed to replace the wheel bearings.
I would recommend taking the housings off and taking them to a shop to be
pressed out. They can also press the new bearings in. When I replaced the
bearings on my 4kq, I was foolish enough to think I could put the new
bearings in myself. With a very large hammer and some fixtures, I pounded
the new ones in. I ended up ruining a pair of bearings. I could've used
that money to have a shop install them properly. The only special tool you
will need to remove the strut housings is a strut removal tool to take off
the strut top nut. I was able to get away with using an air wrench
instead.
As for the suspension, beware, I have that same setup, Boge Turbo Gas with
H&R's. It's a very rough ride on bad roads. I had a lot of people
recommend this setup. They were right that it greatly improves handling,
but most of these people were in CA where the roads are in perfect shape.
Here in Pittsburgh, the rough roads tend to jar me around with my setup.
I would recommend using Boge Pro Gas with H&R's instead of Boge Turbo Gas.
The Pro Gas are supposed to handle well, but have a slightly softer ride.
However, if the roads where you live are in great shape, go with the Turbo
Gas. Just my .02
