5+5 Brake Upgrade Update

Thanks to all the people who replied to my original post. Here in
Australia we never got the Scirocco so there is little chance of being able
to use brakes from one. Also none of the wreckers seem to think the Golf GTi
's had the vented front discs until about '87.
However now I have found a new solution. One of the mechanics from the
Wrecking yard showed me what he had done with his car. He used Struts from
an '88 model Audi 80 4 cylinder and a rear axle from the same car. This
allows him to have disc brakes on all four wheels. He says the braking is
now much better then it was before. So I have decided that I will use the
same setup on my car. The only disadvantage is I'll need to get new mag
wheels. The whole setup with wheels and tires is going to cost me about
$600 - which is a bit more expensive than I first intended to pay but I
think it will be worth it. My car needs new springs, front discs and rear
axle anyway so this would be a good time to upgrade i think.
The only quaestion I have now is whether or not the 4 cylinder springs
will be able to take the additional weight of the 5cyl engine ?

Once again thanks for everyones advice.

I will let you'll know what the final results are like.

Chris
