RE: Extinction of 200 20vt <was economics of...



In response to Michael Williams' post about the value of the '91 200Q and
the claim that it's essentially the engine that sets it apart and hence its
appeal, I'd have to disagree a bit.  I don't think I'd be interested in my
car if that engine were pushing around a go cart or a cardboard box.  The
engine is very nice, but Audi doesn't have a monopoly on performance
powerplants.  THey did manage to put together a pretty good package in the
type 44s and especially the later ones.  The combination of materials and
workmanship in those cars is pretty good, considering what they went for
(and go for) in the used car market. And all things considered, the big car
doesn't do too badly with that engine.  Finally, they did make incremental
improvements on those cars from '89 through '91, including in reliability.
I look at it as a poor(er) man's/woman's S4.:)
