RE: Advice Needed on Recently Totalled Audi S6

Owwweeee. Sorry to hear about your bad luck, but happy to hear you had some
good fortune as well. Please continue to take comfort over the next weeks
in that fact that you were spared serious injury.

As to the car and insurance: In the case of my totalled '91 200q, the
adjuster claimed that they surveyed 12 local dealers and came up with an
"average" price. Almost $2k lower than my purchase price. This of course
sounded to me like a complete fabrication to the extent that probably not
any '91 200q cars had been sold in the past two years in my area. I made
her aware of what I had paid (which included a 12 month/12000 mile
warranty) just three months earlier. Then I quoted her the even higher
Kelley BB retail. She ended up paying me a bit more than my purchase price
(+ tax) and also negotiated a pretty favorable deal on the salvage. I
bought the salvage and immediately resold it to my mechanic at a small
profit. So I came away with about $1500 over my cost for the car (less
warranty value and price of new tires). I came out pretty fair I thought,
but only because I pushed and didn't accept their initial offer. Ed Kellock
will probably chime in. He's gone through this recently and didn't have
such an easy time of it. You may have an easier situation because your car
is relatively new.

Good luck.

Phil
