The alternator, for example, is specified as 8 Nm on the outer adjuster
nut (I think it's 20mm) for a 'new' belt, and 4 Nm for one that's
already run on those pulleys. I think if you use that setting, and then
transfer the apparent tightness to the others, you won't go far wrong.
The microfiche speaks about it being 'gerade noch' (just about) possible
to turn the centre of the belt 90 degrees between finger and thumb.
In moments of levity, we've wondered whether German Kraftfahrzeugmeistern
have calibrated thumbs.
