My '86 5ktq had the same problem. The exhaust header cracked at the
original weld near the O2 sensor connection. I assumed the pipe was somehow
stressed at this point, because the crack would close up as the pipe heated
up until the leak was sealed and the crack was no longer visible.
If the pipe is in good condition, you should be able to get it welded.
It may crack again if the mounting system is allowing thermal expansion to
stress the pipe. I would recommend TIG or oxy/acetylene welding. Stick
welding the pipe may result in early failure due to residual stresses in the
pipe from the welding process.
