Hi Albert;
As I recall, the original oil in the 5k slushbox final drive was not
synthetic. With time, the light components of the oil boiled off through the
tranny vent, cooking the tranny output shaft seal and letting the tranny and
final drive oil mix. This ,of course, led to the well known Audi slushbox
meltdown. I think Audi put out a TSB recommending the original final drive
oil be drained and refilled with synthetic.
