Scott,
I kinda knew that you'll be the first one to answer, but _this_ soon,
during
a holiday? Thanks much! :-)
It appears that the later brain has the same 5mm barb as the early
MAC-11. When I installed boost gauges first on mine, then on Osman's '89
200TQ I used the 0.25" DIA quick disconnect compression fittings in both
the boost gauge and the T which I cut in-line with the 5mm I.D. vacuum
hose to the brain, 10-15mm off the brain port. Stretching that 5mm hose
over the 6.34mm T was a veeery tedious process. Alas, McMaster sells
neither 13/64" (5.15mm) nor 7/32" (5.55mm) fittings.
On my wife's '98 A4TQ I installed the boost gauge also with the sourced
from McMaster quick disconnect fittings. Only this time I fed it off an
unused and capped 3mm port in the back of the intake manifold, so I was
able to use the 1/8" fittings. I was a bit apprehensive about feeding it
directly off the IM, but evidently the VDO boost gauges have built-in
dampers: the needle does not vibrate and travels very smoothly.
