Mechanically the A4 and A6 are nearly identical (same suspension
designs, same V6 engines, etc).  The A6 is larger and more luxurious
and heavier, and is currently only offered with the Tiptronic transmission
in the US.  Hence, the A6 doesn't feel as quick and sporty as the A4.
If you want a larger car than the A6 is "good".  If you want a smaller,
sportier car then the A4 is "good".  It all depends on what you're
looking for.
