Type 44: damaged door wiring loom/switch problems

**First of all, sorry if this subject has been beat to death lately. I've
been off the list for about three months (time flies when your Audi runs).**

So, I think I found my window switch problems (but chime in here if you
think I'm wrong). I spent a good hour (OK, three) swapping switches, pulling
door panels, etc, trying to figure out why my backseat passenger window
doesn't work (luckily stuck in the up position). It finally dawned on me to
pull back the rubber boot between the driver's door and the car body. Low
and behold, I see about 10 wires stretched tight -- about half of them bare
because their insulation gave way.

A bit of an aside, but excuse me: WHAT A JOKE!!! Team door handle must have
been in charge of window switch loom. I mean, hello?! They give a car a
10-year rust guarantee, then run wiring loom guaranteed to break in nine
years! This is not a part that should wear out.

Ok, I vented, now I need to fix this. I've seen the limited info about this
on Scott Mockry's excellent web site, but would appreciate any BTDT tips for
repairing this problem. I'm thinking something along the lines of cutting,
splicing, then heat-shrink tubing about 3" into each wire. Any other
thoughts?

Thanks,
