I have the same problem on m 91 80q.  at first it would only turn on when
the engine would warm up or when i go around turns.  now it is on at all
times.  i have a feeling though it is a sensor thing.  i am bring in the 80q
on tuesday to the dealer to have the AC fixed.  i'll ask about it then.
i'll let ya know.
