The black metal cover is probably covering your trannys
governor.Governor gives the hydraulic shift control system information
about output shaft rpm(=vehicle speed).If those oil leaks don't spoil
your parking place it is not so urgent to replace them.
Those extra holes and enlarged oil-holes are for some sort of a "shift
kit".
Generally a shift kit improves shifts making them faster and more
accurate.The general idea is to get a sportier feeling and faster
shifts also let the tranny to slip less during the shifts,so the
clutches and bands last longer.
