Subject: RE: PN - Radiator ground wire upgrade

Regarding the ground wire disappearing into the harness...
I cut open the wiring harness on a 1985 5K and followed the ground wire
from the fan.
It goes to the chassis just below and behind the fan.
It is bolted on along with the braided engine ground cable.
The same one that sometimes needs to be cleaned up due to corrosion.

Diesel Engine VW's use a fuse arrangement similar to the one we are talking
about
adding to the fan circuit. It is under the hood mounted in the middle of
the firewall. Easily seen...a two inch square black plastic thingy with
fat red wires leading to it. These cars are plentiful in the junkyard. Of
course you don't want to use pieces that are corroded or otherwise suspect,
but this could save someone a trip to the dealer. Except you'd still need
the 80 AMP fuse.
I have bought the correct parts from the dealer and also took the fuse
setup out of the VW Rabbit so I know they are pretty much the same.
If you pull one of these you probably should also get a couple lengths of
the fat red wiring with ring terminal to go with it.
