Wastegate removal

I'm trying to remove my wastegate (or my car's, actually) to replace the
wastegate diaphragm, but I'm having trouble getting the thing out of the
car. I planned to remove the complete wastegate assembly, as pictured in
the Bentley, and then figure out how to replace the diaphragm. (I did
follow last month's dicussion of diaphragm replacement and some sort of
coin slot on the underside.)

I removed the four nuts holding it to the exhaust manifold's studs. Then
I moved to the three nuts holding it to the wastegate pipe's studs. I
started turning one with a 12mm wrench and I've now turned it enough
that it should have moved a good bit... but I can't tell that it has,
which worries me.

I had already removed the WG top and the three nuts hold the middle and
bottom of the WG together, but that didn't seem to get me any closer to
removing the diaphragm or the whole thing.

How should I be going about replacing the diaphragm? Remove the complete
wastegate first? Remove the wastegate pipe (going to the exhaust pipe)
with the wastegate? I would appreciate any help on this job, which has
turned out to be trickier than I expected. Thanks!
