No BTDT, but when I fill the outdrive on my boat, I always fill from the 
drain plug. They sell pumps at boat stores which screw into the drain plug 
and allow you to pump gear oil in until it comes out the fill hole. You would 
have to do some adapting, and keep track of the quantity you pump in, but it 
is a cheap solution. HTH
