Oil Filter P/N

Walked into my local shop to order some odds and ends inculding my oil
filter.  He looked at me and said, "Oh I stock those now."  Ahh this is
nice, never did before.  I looked up the part # in $%# CD and it doesn't say
what model it belongs to.  Although the oil filter part number for the oil
filter for my engine is different according to $%# CD.  Is this oil filter
OK to use?
