Re: Unhappy 200 in Heat.

My temperature gauge is usually at about the middle mark, too. I think it
operates from 90 to 110 degrees celsius. I've only owned the car a year (exact
same car as yours) and the under hood temp is the hottest of any car I've ever
owned. My mechanic sez that Audi believes that the physics of turbocharging
demand that the engine operate at a very hot temp to maintain efficiency. On
the other hand, my '88 Mazda GTX is a turbocharged 4 and it operates in a very
moderate range. My old Saab turbo did, too. The GTX generates about 180 HP
(modified) and the SAAB about 150 (modified) so I can't quite agree with the
alleged Audi assumption.

The question is - is this high temp dangerous? I'm still suspicious. This is
Virginia, too, where mid 90's temps are pretty common in summer.
