Ok, now this is just my opinion BUT:

1.) Check the whole fuel pump/relay problem that has come up forty or fifty 
times on the list.

2.) On the first past of the thottle cabling system, there is a little 
screw/wing nut type thing that can be adjusted to make the throttle 
response "tighter" by making sure there is no slack on the cable.  Huw was 
looking under my hood and saw that this had slack, and tightened it.  I 
never had the "Punch it, Margaret." problem of the acceleration not kicking 
in when I jammed down the accelerator, again.  Be careful, tightening this 
too much results in naughty things.  For all you neophytes, pardon my 
technical jargon.

That was just my fumbling, bumbling attempt at help.
