Yes it does keep heat in the gas that is in the chamber but no it shouldn't
increase detonation more than likely it lower the chances of it occuring.
Detonation occurs when the fuel is ignited by another source (like a carbon
deposit) other than the spark comming from the plug.. Since the walls of the
chamber are insulated, there is less heat radiating from the chamber (from
the previous air/fuel burn) to the incomming fuel/air mixture, therefore less
chances predetonation or forming of hotspots on the chamber walls, but I've
heard that due to cooler chamber surfaces, carbon forms more easily. On the
other hand more heat is blown out the exhaust (to spool up a turbo or heat a
catalytic) and puts more stress on your exhaust system. Possibly the only bad
things about Ceramic coatings are the cost and possible clearance problems,
or burning of the exhaust valves if they can't handle the extra heat...
