I have never yet seen one that would not come off readily with a huge pair
of channel locks through the spring (maybe a large pipe wrench?), worst case
would be an air hammer used to rotate/break loose the rust bonding. Heat
without additional damage may be dicey in there  but you do what you have to
do, salt is an ugly thing.
