typ44 A/C question, and timing belt question

early '86 5kT.
problem: A/C blowing out defrost vents.

so..i thought the climate control programmer, located behind the glovebox,
went bad. well, i pull it out, and swap it with a good one i have from my
wrecked '84, and it STILL blows thru the defrost. ('84 to early '86 is the
same programmer)
any ideas?

also, on the evaporator housing flap (door) the plastic bracket that holds
the vacuum bladder broke. so the rubber vacuum bladder is just hanging off
the door, and the door stays open to under the hood. (it obviously was like
this for some time, when i opened the door above the front passengers
foorwell, the whole housing was clogged with leaves, behind the evaporator..)

is it feasible to remove just the evap door assembly without removing the
whole evap? i looked up in there, i may be able to wire the vacuum bladder
to the mount...anybody tried to wire it up when it broke?
also, when the A/C is on, the evap door should be open to underneath the
hood, or open to the interior?

also, regarding the timing belt, i just ordered a tensioner/idler pulley, and
a waterpump. anything else i should replace while the timing belt is off?

thanks for your help-

chris
