Thats right as somebody indicated - the charging of a car battery is ideally at 13,6 - 13,7 V. The regulator (If its a Bosch alternator its the black thing on top of the bridge that holds the brushes) should take care of keeping it in that range. Your alternators capasity is normally anything from 45 amp and up - my 100 (86`) puts out 95 amps. It is true that the brushes migth get oxidized, but this should improve very quickly indeed. If your alternator is used and not checked, it migth be that the copper rings on which the brushes go are worn out. If they are, change them and the bearings at the same time. ( Bosch service station does it quite cheap actually....)
