RE: S2

If you suspect it's been clocked (mileage not true) then you could try checking with the previous owner before the person who is selling it. Or contact the dealer who has serviced it, to see if they have any knowledge of the car. If in doubt walk away, there will be another one along in a minute, just like buses. $20K is a lot to spend on car that has a dubious history.

		Audi Fans,
I have the opportunity of Buying an S2 quattro here in South Africa.
It is a RHD and had 47 000 km on the clock, the 1992 car is selling for R120
000 (about USD$20 000, which seems to be the norm market price for the cars
		here)
I have driven the car and although it seems fine for me it would be
difficult to rate just on a short trip and for an inexperienced quattro
		driver like myself.
I noticed that the stick shift seems to be a little loose ( tends to have a
little lateral play, maybe this is normal for this car, it seems strange
		when compared to my prelude)
But else the car is fine to drive, no noise or vibrations and looks in good
		shape.
I am however a little concerned that the kilometres have been altered
although there are service records (that may be forged)
Is there any way of telling the true mileage of the car? What are the first
signs of wear? And any other cautions that I should be aware of?
		Thank You
		Finn Behnken
