rad fan - '84 5KS

Grrrr. Washed the engine on my car yesterday, only to discover later on that my rad fan wasn't going on when it's supposed to - around 88 C. Checked everything out today - thermoswitch on rad appears to be fine, connecting the female connectors going to the thermoswitch together causes the fan to go on, so fan appears to be OK. Also discovered while trying to sort this out that rad fan will go on, at about 103 C or so, on the high setting. So, what gives? I assume the thermoswitch is ok since the fan does turn on, but only on the high setting. Engine temp does not appear to go higher than about 105 C, but that's still 15 C higher than normal, even in 30C weather. Please help me sort this out.

Thanks,
