I5 turbo throttle body mods...

I'm guessing the wedge on the throttle plate of my 200q's throttle body is 
intended to help direct the airflow at less than full throttle ... has anyone 
removed it to determine whether there's any performance improvement to be had 
or driveability issues to be suffered?  I'm also puzzled by the presence of 
the two small circular cutouts in the wedge since I can't see any mechanical 
reason for them and intuition tells me they should screw up the airflow 
instead of improving it.

Also, has anyone had a larger throttle plate fitted?  It appears there's 
enough metal in the housing to allow a 2mm overbore and there are several 
places locally that can do the job fairly inexpensively ... any BTDTs?
