I always use soapy water, then clean water, then alcohol, then acetone
or xylol last to prep for gluing and/or painting random stuff.  I think
alcohol tends to leave residue - of course that may be rubbing alcohol,
a solution, not pure.

so maybe the glue job wasn;t "perfect" and then ther was a higher strain
than expected.

original answer to original poster stands, I guess.  Do it, it works.
