What Bruce said.  Also, I remember that this discussion came up on
the qlist before, the the conclusion was that ram-air was not a
good idea for CIS cars such as the 4KQ.  It would disrupt the
normal operation of the air flow sensor plate.  The best configuration
for CIS is to locate the air intake spout in a relatively calm
place, which the factory has done.

Motronic cars with hot wire air mass sensors, on the other hand,
can benefit from ram-air and you'll notice that the Audi V8, A4,
A6, etc already come from the factory with such an arrangement.
