89 200 tqa progess
I'm finally beginning to feel that I'm fixing things at the faster rate
than they are breaking - for a 2 week period, things were breaking much
faster than I could fix them. Anyway, over the past 3 days, I have:
* Replaced the main battery- starter cable with 15 feet of 1 AWG. There
was corrosion on both ends of my cable, but the splice in the center was
good, surprisingly.
* The wire from the ignition switch to the starter showes signs of
burning at the starter end. And tons of corrosion. I spliced in a new
wire, but it was green with corrosion all the way to the harness.
Suspect I'm going to have to run a new wire one of these days...
* Installed a CD receiver, a CD changer in the trunk, and an amp in the
trunk. This involved wiring, and rewiring, and rewiring, to get rid of
the alternator whine. Finally got the noise down substantially, but not
all gone. Will be dealt with again in the future. I pulled the switched
power from the seat heater switch, and also installed fuses in the lines
in anticipation of wiring in additional gauges and a radar detector.
* cleaned the contacts under the passenger seat, making it work again.
* fixed the vacuum leak in the hatch, getting the rear lock working
again.

Next, gotta fix the a/c. The CCU is displaying a 16 error code,
something to do with the high pressure switch. Also a 9, telling me that
the coolant temp sensor is not connected. Been reading the manual, the
usual very helpful web sites (20v & SJM), and will be tackling tomorrow.
I'll be asking a lot of questions on this one, I know.
And I need to install the new cat I got and take the car for inspection.

Things I can't figure out:
* The rear light does not come on when I open the hatch. Where is the
switch? It works when turned on.
* I can't figure out how to pull a wire up from behind the dash to wire
a suction cup radar detector. Any ideas? Do I need to remove the
instrument cluster?
* Ditto the connectors for a boost gauge - wire and vacuum - how do I
get them above the dash level?
* When the rear defrost is turned on, radio reception turns to static.
This was the case with the gamma radio, and its still happening. Any
ideas?
