Subject: 91 200q pushing H20 out ofcoolant tank

Need the collective wisdom of the list. Title describes problem. With only
moderate boost(14psi) hard driving (sustained boost) causes water to push
out of overflow tank past the cap. Replaced cap and new cap doesn't seem to
work as well. I know water pushes back when you let up on throttle, but the
pressure is pushing past the cap. Aux rad cleaned and checked 18 months
ago, and main rad replaced with metal unit of exactly the same size. Problem
is only for spirited driving. Daily driving ok, and since I replaced
expansion tank (small crack) no fluid loss. Suggestions? TIA

Jerry: could be a sticking thermostat. Pain in the neck job, but possible
to do with the radiator in place. Hopefully not leaking head gasket (as
others suggested), but that can be tested through analysis of coolant, or a
leak-down test.

Also, as I recall you live in Florida. Might be worth reducing the amount of
antifreeze to water that you use, as water has a higher heat storage
capacity... you only need enough antifreeze to deal with near freezing temps,
not sustained below freezing (which is also enough for rust prevention,
etc.). Are you sure the fan runs at all three speeds, and does the after-run
fan and pump work? Does the pump just hum, or actually move coolant?
