Re: 87 5ktq boost problems and questions---> Problem solved!
Last weekend I did the exhaust back pressure test thinking that maybe the
exhaust was plugged up, no problems found, around 1-2 psi @ 4k rpm. Then I
started thinking turbo since i had already done the overboost test. I
decided to try the over boost test again only this time disconnecting the
lower waste gate hose and plugging the manifold (I just pinched off the line
before, but abviously not enough). On the test drive on got 10 psi and fuel
cuttoff! What a relief, no turbo prolems. Started checking the system
controls again and found the full throttle switch not working. I had
already taken it apart and fixed it before (contacts were bad), this time
the contacts were good but one of then solder joints had cracked.
Resoldered it and went for a test drive, 6 psi everytime now! Time for the
1.8 bar upgrade!
I also installed a boost gauge (before doing the testing) and can confirm
that the onboard gauge is trash, don't trust it. One problem I am having
with the gauge (autometer) is the line, its hard plastic and it kinks very
easily, anyone run a flexible line? i would think that would through the
ready off a little. I think i might run a little flexible line up around
the gauge because that is where I am havin the problem, it just doesn't want
to bend like i want it to.
