Don't get me wrong; our urq is one of the better performing examples of the
marque. There are a few list members that can attest to that. It's just
not as balanced as the 951 -- and never will be without serious
modification and $$$. Much easier to buy a 951 instead.
If you want to harass ferraris, corvettes, and 911's on the track, get a
951. If you need to drive in the rain, snow and ice, however, stick with a
urq. >>
You are absolutely right John, there is a special place in my heart for
my UrQ, otherwise why would I endure the constant challenges owning one
brings. I have wanted an Urq since I first saw one when they were new ( I
was 12y/o I think), all the kids were reading sports illustrated and I was
monitoring the Quattros crusade against the world in rally competition.
After owning it for close to five years now I have come to the realization
that anything Audi did right with the car was prolly by accident, keep in
mind I still love the car, but... I guess if the car were that good to
begin with we'd all be bored since there would be nothing to re-engineer ;o]
A few years ago I drove my first 951, I felt so at-home in this car, it
seems as though the car reacts by your thoughts rather than your muscles.
One of the biggest reasons for my quest to find a 951 was to really improve
my driving skills, everyone seems to be able to drive a quattro well, yet put
them in a rear-drive sports machine and everything they thought they knew is
now void (me included). I have to admit even to myself, that I can drive the
UrQ with the most ham-fisted technique and get it around the track well.
I have spent a lil bit of time in a 300+ HP 951 with all the track
prep goodies, including the MAF conversion, K27, big reds at all four,
Weltmeister this and that, and I know for the investment you are not going to
get a better car. I did two sessions in my 951 at Blackhawk a couple of
weeks ago and it became very aparent why so many of these cars nip at the
heels of some of the most prestigious cars built. Ever.
The only flame we're gonna get is by closed minded.
happy motoring
