It would be a good idea to get the system voided by an A/C shop before you
do anything else.  You don't want to leave any moisture in the system.  It
can freeze in the system and cause blockages.  The same procedure would show
whether your system will hold pressure, also. R-12 is way too expensive to
just put in and hope it stays.

Once you've determined that, a 2 oz oil charge shouldn't hurt anything.  On
many of  the type 44 cars, 38 ozs of refrigerant is maximum capacity.  You
don't want to go over that.
