Diff. fluid change

This is my first time posting so please bear with me.  I recently purchased
an 84 4KQ with 228K on it!  Runs great, purchased from the 2nd owner.  I
don't believe that either the tranny or the rear diff fluids have ever been
changed which makes me a bit nervous!  I have a VW Manual for the Quantum
Syncro which I have been told has the same all wheel system.  I can't find
anywhere in that manual states the kind of fluid to use or the amount to
use.  I know that that the tranny takes 2 qt. and I generally use RedLine
MTL, but what should I use in the Diff..

And, while we are on the subject, does the center differential have a
separate tank too?

By the way, this has got to be the coolest web/user group in the world.
Been following in for a short period of time and learned tons.
