This has been the subject of much debate over the years.

There is little doubt in my mind that assembly of a right-hand drive car
starts with the careful positioning of the clutch master cylinder on a
temporary wire frame.  The car is built around this, with the result
that subsequent replacement of the clutch master cylinder involves the
removal of most of the car.
