On ours, it was the "pin" holding the 1/2" piece into the bar; not positive 
if the larger bar has a correspondingly larger pin; might be worth looking at.
I've been using a 6-pt impact socket for 1/2 inch drive, no extension; the 
extension will reduce applied torque somewhat as it gets longer (force 
twisting the bar versus turning the bolt...).
