The I5 unit was used in some Volvos too, but 70 hp without turbo was
just too slow. The turbodiesel did never find its way into the Volvos.
The 6-cylinder was used in the VW LT, a mid-sized truck. It produced
82 hp without turbo. Later, both the I5 and the I6 got turbo, and the
I5 got 87 hp and the I6 somewhere about 100.
Did you know that the 4-cylinder diesel used in Golf/Jetta, the
5-cylinder from Audi 5000 and the 6-cylinder in VW LT and Volvo is the
same engine, just with more cylinders? Bore and stroke are the same,
and a lot of parts is interchangeable.. It was 1.6, 2.0 and 2.4 litre
engines..
