vapor locking I5

Hi list. thanks to all that responded to my questions so far.  I have 87 vw
quantum with 130K. With information gathered here I replaced front struts,
control arm bushings, and wheel bearings, then replaced timming belt and
water pump... all in the last 30 days in preparation for trip from oklahoma
to colorado.

My trip went great - put 2000 miles on the car. No oil consumption. but
coming home i had to stop for a highway construction site, and suddenly the
car would not idle or run without using almost full throttle.  I limped to
the next town and shut it off for a few minutes. Then it started and ran
great, refueled and it hasn't done it since.  It was 105 degrees that day.
anyone ever had a similar problem?
