FS: 85 ur-q |Details from local q-lister
Hi gang
Last night I inspected and drove the '85 ur-q
advertised in Autoweek:
Chassis: 1116
Build date: 5/85
Miles: 140,790
Color: Mars Red, Black leather
Price: US$9000 firm.
Location: Tucson, Arizona, USA
Reason: Wife wants new droF Exploder
History: One owner -- claims to have purchased 2 new
US spec 1985 ur-q's at same time (he took red one,
'partner' took 'grey' color car which was sold 2 years
ago). Both cars delivered from Germany thru broker for
$60k (doesn't make sense to me either)to port in
Houston, TX. Car _is_ US spec (bumpers, speedo, cat,
etc.). Car has lived in Santa Fe NM, Santa Barbara CA,
and Tucson AZ. It's been to Pike's Peak several times
(not to race).
Condition: Good. Wife's daily driver. Zero mods. No
rust. No major accidents. Paint fade, couple of
sizeable dings, scratches, and bumper bruises. Ugly
screws added to door panels and instrument pod to hold
in place! ALL mechanicals (including radiator,
alternator, h2o pump, CV's, wheel bearings) are
original unreplaced or refurbished -- working but well
worn. Never serviced at dealer or any other repair
facility! Owner has self-inflated expertise re
mechanical abilities. No Bentley or proper tools. Long
crank to start, runs rough thru warm-up. Turbo is shot
-- very poor response, plenty of whistle. 1.6 bar max.
Torn seats, drivers left bolster is deformed, sunroof
seal is shredded, windows tinted with film. Right
motor mount is collapsed, all s/f and c/a bushings are
dead, CV's grind. Brakes are metal-to-metal. Shifts
well. Clutch seems fine but needs adjusting if
possible. Tires are used up. Did not test A/C or diff
locks. No extra parts or accessories except original
stereo.
Conclusion: This car has been driven every day for
fourteen years with only minimal owner-servicing. This
car is complete but tired and needs plenty of new bits
(and its first valve adjustment!). For a total of
close to $15k it should come back to life quite nicely
and make a wonderful example.
You can reach the owner, Phil O'Connor at
520-529-2787. You can reach me at 520-322-6500 x17.
For local mechanical evaluation I suggest you contact
Dann Oebker at Red Line Service 520-795-5394. He is a
factory trained Porsche technician (thru 911 twin
turbo) and has built several Porsche, VW, and Audi
race cars including my '83 ur-q .
Cheers, tj
