It brings me back to the key point for those putting MC engines in
ur-quattros - Audi already did it (the MB ur-quattro in 1988/9) so
why re-invent the wheel?  Just check out the parts listings for the
MB.  You don't need 'custom' versions of _ANYTHING_.

... as I mentioned in my private e-mail reply, the main benefit to the 2B
approach was that they transplanted the MC engine without any modifications
at all into the 4kQ.  This was done to eliminate any doubt that the modified
car would pass California's Smog Check program.  If you make any change at
all to the engine, intake or exhaust from the cat forward you risk the smog
folks requiring you to somehow prove that the modifications do not affect
the emissions of the engine.
