I've done this myself in the past.  However, at the risk of being labeled a 
curmudgeon, this approach has its drawbacks as well as you need to be sure 
there's enough metal in the hub left to properly support the wheel.  The rule 
of thumb is that the hub thickness as measured through the bolt hole has to 
be equal or greater to the diameter of the hole itself; i.e., if the bolt 
hole is 12mm in diameter, then there should be at least 12mm of thickness 
left to the hub.
