RE: Bad O2 sensor / high fuel consumption

Hi Doug

Don't think so in this case, the car has used only 0.25 litre of oil in 6000 miles.

Could high fuel consumption from a bad O2 sensor (rich mixture) also lead to a bit high oil consumption, too?

Ti

The car has only done 48000 miles and is like new in all respects, I have got some plugs, dizzy cap and fuel filter on order. But other than the petrol consumption it runs really well with no other problems, are there any other pointers to look out for with O2 sensors, I could be barking up the wrong tree here, I have had a couple of responses from listers who say that this figure is about right. I have a couple of 100 saloons with the 2.2KV and both of those (one auto and one manual) gave around 28 to 30 mpg, and this is all on the same roads. It may be that the bigger engine works less hard and is therefore more economical.

Appreciate the reply and further info much appreciated.

Regards

Iain

Make sure the car is running in top tune... check the basics first,
like ignition timing, fuel mixture and pressures, cylinder compressions,
spark plugs and other ignition parts, vacuum hoses, etc.
