It sounds like your ECU burped! I'm guessing that since you're approaching 
75k it's a '97...could be the sensors picked up a fault and reacted to 
correct and overdid it. My Ford used to do that all the time. Since I've 
changed the chip on my '97 I've had ZERO engine control problems related to 
OBDII.
