Re: Truck Intercooler?
The intercoolers Volvo used in its older turbo cars are a thin, single-pass
design that's nearly as large as the Type 44 radiator. They were mounted in
front of the radiator, have large inlets and outlets and flow pretty well ...
I suspect it'd be quite a bit of work to mount one on a Type 44 but given
their availability and cheap price, it might be worth looking into if you're
really determined to improve things here.
One other point: I ran my 200q without a grill for a week while I was having
it cleaned and repainted, and this improved the car's performance noticeably.
The usual K24 heat-soak problem was barely noticeable and the coolant ran
almost 20 degrees colder ... perhaps the stock IC wouldn't be so bad if more
air could be made to flow through it?
Lastly: If you are going to play around with truck intercoolers, commerical
truck shops are good sources for the hoses and mandrel-bent tubing you'll
need to do a proper job of it. Surprisingly cheap, too.
