I can confirm the the wiring in the drivers door hinge area is a
frequent problem area for windows, alarms, etc.
The wiring is quite stiff and frequently stretched tight when the door
is open. The symptoms vary from car to car, but my broken wiring first
showed up as windows work in the morning, but not in the
afternoon. The heating of the car in the sun was all it took to shift
the broken wires a bit and break the connection.
Usually you can tell if your wiring is bad by pulling back the black
rubber bellows that contains the wiring. The insulation is usually
cracked and bare wire is visible. I imagine with a little careless
handling, nasty shorts could happen, so BE CAREFUL in there.
When replacing the broken wires, it is best to splice in new wire from
inside the door, to inside the drivers kick panel.
