That's right. PC Plod or more correctly, Mr Plod the Policeman is a
character in the 'Noddy In Toytown' books by Enid Blyton. I've always
believed that his name was chosen because at the time that the books were
written most policemen in the UK walked a beat, 'plod' meaning to walk
laboriously or trudge. Plod has become slang (even within the police force -
sorry - police _service_) for a uniformed police constable.
