Report from MH99

Hi All,

Just got back from Laguna Seca a little while ago, where I spent most of the
day. The turnout wasn't too bad; this is supposed to be the slowest day of
the historics. I've had the chance to meet many listers whom I've been
talking with for several years now on the internet, and I look forward to
meeting more tomorrow. I'll start off tent-by-tent; first is the QCUSA tent
with 4 of the Beddor's Sport Q's (3 red, 1 white). Already an impressive
display in and of itself. We move next door to Audi's tent displaying their
new cars, with a couple of new TT's and a new Imola Yellow S4 with the
Alcantra leather and aluminum trim; I'm gonna have to spend some more time
looking at this one tomorrow ;-). There was also a 4.2 A6 and 2.7TT A6.
Nice cars...

Moving over to the Eurospec tent, they have two of the Trans Am 200Q's and 2
DTM V8Q's. The most impressive part of the display is a complete aluminum
5-cyl 10vt from the 200Q, 6-speed gearbox, 2.0L Turbo motor, and a 470 HP
DTM 3.6 V8 from the touring car, complete with carbon fibre intake (please
hold on, while I wipe the drool off my face ;-). I haven't found the
display containing the auto unions, S1's, and R8R, but I'm gonna make it my
mission tomorrow.

One of the coolest vendor's displays, IMHO, was the Michelin tent, which
seemed like any other, til I went inside and saw an actual 959 S (sport
version; only 26 of these made) with a whole 810 miles. This is one
absolutely gorgeous car!!

As for the QCUSA corral, the S2 rally cars of George Plsek and Rui Brasil
are on display and seem to be the most popular cars in the corral. The 4ktq
(20vt) road race car of Rod Cornell and Tim Valencia is also on display;
painted just one night before the event =). There are also several
UrS4/S6's, a slew of UrQ's, many CQ's and a couple of 90Q's, tons o' 5ktq's,
and a few '91 200TQ's. I'm sure we'll have many more tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the demonstration run of the R8R and the old auto unions, which
should be interesting. I personally can't wait to hear the S1's.

That's it for now...more tomorrow night.

later,
