I have ... in fact, if you want to be quick, you don't have a choice.  
Unfortunately, this also means you'll have to learn how to drive around the 
resulting understeer (although some setup tricks can help with this).  As for 
increasing wear and tear on the drivetrain, I don't think locking the center 
diff poses much of a problem given the relatively skinny tires and wheels 
these cars run...
