looking at the wedge and what it does, it appears that at slight
throttle openings it makes the very small air flows easier to manage, ie
it takes a bit more pedal movement to get to the same, still small,
amount of airflow.  I imagine this relates to driveability, ability to
gently apply a small amount of power.  Of course at WOT that wedge is
still there fattening the plate a bit, although by then it is in a wider
section of the TB.
