   It doesn't.  He went into far more detail that I am not qualified to
   comment on.  Does anyone else know the difference between the innards on
   the TT and A4 engines? 

The only possibly-salient addition I can provide is that, while talking
to my local Audi Service Manager the other day, we touched on the A4
and the TT, and in discussing the two engines, he said that they were
completely different. I don't remember his exact words (it was months
ago), but I was surprised and pressed him on it, and what I vaguely
remember was that they were just completely different engines -- dif-
ferent blocks, heads, just completely different engines. Undoubtedly,
they share some parts; crank? piston? con-rod? valve? oil-pump? I
have *NO IDEA*. This is not an authoritative posting, just passing on
a quick conversation with an allegedly RKI [Reasonably Knowledable
Individual]. YMMV, Caveat Emptor, eat your vegetables, and all that.
