Re: Fw: RHD import to US

I'd be curious is someone finds out more about this "new" DOT rule. I
could see it possibly applying to the DOT-controlled imports (1973 and
newer) but I've never heard of it. I have carefully researched the DOT,
EPA, and Customs regs, so if anyone knows of the specific reference, I'd
like to know about it.

BTW, I recently (2 months ago) imported a RHD car into the US with no
DOT/EPA problems and no questions from Customs. It was a 1960 model,
though. Since it's tiny (Berkeley T60 3 wheeler) the RHD really poses
no problems. The '59 Roller I drove last weekend was a different story
altogether. Of course neither has the performance to be aggressively
passing people!

Oh, I just stumbled across a mid-70's Reliant Robin (RHD, 3 wheeler)
here in WI. When I inquired, the owner said it was "smuggled" in in a
shipping container loaded with antiques. He was able to get a US
(motorcycle) registration from one of the title companies and now has it
registered here. Anybody want to sneak me in a Bond Bug? ;-)
